R & D in Traditional Pharmaceutics & Nutraceutics:
A brainstorming workshop on Traditional Pharmaceutics and Nutraceutics was organised by the Centre for Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutics, Foundation for Revitalisation of Local Health Traditions with the support of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India on 27.05.08 & 28.05.08. Main objective of the workshop was to identify R & D constraints that have been the stumbling blocks in the advancement of Traditional Medicine sector.
More than 50 experts from Ayurveda, Science & Technology and the Pharma sector participated in the two-day workshop.
There was consensus among all delegates on the critical need to have a State-of-the-Art R & D Centre that is dedicated to product and technology development to contemporarise traditional medicine for the national and global markets. The need to understand and keep intact Ayurvedic principles and science alongside modern S & T was realised by all. The delegates suggested that the Centre be focused in its area of work such as R & D in contemporary Nutraceutical and Cosmecuetical products based on Ayurveda.

Jalbandhu:
Centre for Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutics, Foundation for Revitalisation of Local Health Traditions released a simple, copper-based device for drinking water purification.
Jalbandhu (Water- friend)- The device is a product of R & D at FRLHT based on traditional water purification methods. The devise, being easy to use, capable of decreasing the count of different bacteria in drinking water including E. coli, Salmonella typhi and Vibrio cholerae. Testing it on other water-borne viruses and protozoans is on going.
