Around 37 types of specialised treatments are being conducted in
this centre under the guidance of experts.
Panchakarma treatment
Poorva karma (Pre – operative procedure)
Snehana & Swedana constitute poorva karma. These are aimed to
effectively undertake the subsequent main treatment (Panchakarma)
procedures by the patient.
Snehaman
It is the administration of oily substances (medicated oil or ghee)
either internally or externally or both.
Externally: As Abhyanga (Oil massage), Instillation of medicated
oil drops in the ears, nose etc.
Internally: The medicated oil or ghee is given orally and is known
as sneha pana.
Swedanam
It is a method of inducing sweating in the body my various means
of heat application. For eg. Application of warm poultice over the
skin.
Pradhana karma (Operative procedures)
These are the procedures by which the toxins from the body are eliminated.
After proper poorva karma the patient undergoes one or more of these
treatment procedures as per the need.
Vamanam
The act of bringing out the toxins through the oral root ( inducing
vomiting) by the adminstration of medicines is Vamana. This treatment
is best for eliminating Kapha dosha.
Vasti
It is the administartion of medicated oil or decoction through the
anal route like enema. This treatment is best for Vata dosha.
Virechanam
Eliminating toxins form the anal route by means of purgation (Inducing
loose motions) is termed as Virechanam and is the best treatment
for Pitta dosha.
Nasyam
Purification of the head region by instilling medicines through
nostrils is termed as Nasyam. It is beneficial in headache, sinusitis,
grey hair, baldness etc.
Raktamoksham
This treatment is aimed at eliminating the impure blood from the
body by means of Leech application, pricking the abnormal or discoloured
skin surface or puncturing the small veins. Mostly employed in skin
diseases and mental disorders.
Other Special treatments
Siro dhara
Dropping of warm medicated oil or suitable liquid medium in an uninterrupted
way as a small stream over the entire forehead region while the
patient lies on his back is siro dhara. Beneficial in sleeplessness,
mental conditions etc.
Siro Vasti
The hair of the patient is cut short and the medicated oil is retained
over the scalp by means of a leather bag tied properly around the
head so that the oil doesn’t leak out.
Thalapothichil
Application of wet medicated paste over the head and then covering
the same with a steamed plantain leaf.
Pichu
Cotton or a clean cotton cloth is soaked in the medicated oil and
is placed over the skin surface. This is beneficial in various kinds
of pains, sprain, fractures and other neurological disorders
Netra Tarpanam
Blackgram paste is placed as boundary walls around the outer surface
of eye sockets.Medicated oils / ghee or decoctions are filled in
the eye sockets. This treatment is beneficial in various eye disorders.
Mukhalepanam
Application of medicated pastes over the face is termed as Mukha
lepanam and it restores skin tone and improves skin texture.
Ela kizhi
This is one of the various kinds of fomenatation with leaves of
various medicinal plants kept in a bolus. This medicated leaf bolus
is applied on the affected body parts while in warm state.
Podi kizhi
This is one of the various kinds of fomenatation methods where medicated
powder is taken in a bolus and applied on the body. This is mainly
used in reducing weight and removing excess fat.
Greeva Vasti
This is the technique of retaining medicated oils within the boundaries
of Black gram paste over the back of the neck region for a specific
preiod of time.
Kati Vasti
This is the technique of retaining medicated oils within the boundaries
of Black gram paste over the lower back region for a specific preiod
of time.
Udwartanam
This is gentle rubbing of medicated powders over the skin. Beneficial
in obesity and similar conditions
Abhyangam
Application of medicated oil over the body in systematic way is
abhyangam.
Ekanga Dhara
Pouring of warm medicated oil or suitable liquid medium in an uninterrupted
way over one particular regoin of the body.
Dhoopanam (Ekanga)
Fumigation with dry parts of certain medicinal plants is known as
Dhoopanam.
Karna Pooranam
Filling of medictaed oil into the ears is known as Karna pooranam.
This is practised in healthy as well as in those with certain ear
disorders.
Karna Dhoopanam
Fumigation of the ear with dry parts of certain medicinal plants
is known as karna dhoopanam.
Kavalam
Gargling of medicated oils or certain liquids is Kavalam.
Gandoosham
Withholding medicated oils or certain liquids in the mouth for a
certain period of time is known as Gandoosham.
Anjanam
Application of medicated collyrium in the eyes is known as anjanam.
Pizhichil
Pouring of warm medicated oil all over the body in an uninterrupted
manner is known as Pizhichil.
Navara Kizhi
Application of medicated paste prepared in processed milk and with
a specific variety of rice called Navara all over the body is known
as Navara Kizhi.
Pada tala thaila tharpanam
Pouring warm medicated oil over the feet (especially the sole) is
Pada tala thaila tharpanam. This is beneficial in insomnia, pain
of the lower limbs and improves vision.
Thalam
Application of medicated paste made of appropriate herbs over the
scalp for a specific period of time.
Avagaham
Immersion of the entire body except for the head in certain warm
medicated liquids is avagaham.
Upanaham
One of the types of fomentation done by tying warm medicated poultice
on the affected part of the body.
Aschyothanam
Dropping of medicatments into the eye from a height of two inches
is termed as aschyothanam.
Sekam
Pouring of medicated liquids over the closed eye lids from a height
of two inches.
Dhanyamla dhara
Pouring of certain warm sour preparations in an uninterrupted way
over the body is termed as Dhanyamla dhara.
